There are shrub, shrub and tree-sized species that grow spontaneously in all temperate and tropical regions of the world except Australia. Most of the species that make up the genus Ilex are evergreen plants. But a few of them shed their leaves in autumn. After the cream-colored flowers that bloom in autumn, red fruits appear in winter. Round, seeded and juicy fruits are red in some species and black in others. It likes sunny and semi-shaded places.
