Stone Pine
Stone pine is a pine species from the Pinaceae family that is especially common in Mediterranean climate regions. Its body is generally flat and cylindrical. Its leaves are long needle-shaped and densely arranged. A mature stone pine tree has a large, wide crown at the top.
Fruit (Peanut): The most well-known feature of the stone pine tree is its edible peanuts, which usually ripen in autumn. These peanuts are often called pine nuts for the seeds they contain and are used especially in Mediterranean cuisine.
Growing Conditions: Stone pine generally prefers hot and dry climates. It grows in well-drained soils and in a sun-loving location. This pine species, which has high drought tolerance, can also adapt to calcareous soils.
Areas of Use: Stone pine is used as a decorative tree in landscaping, parks and gardens. It is also preferred to provide shade and block the wind. Peanuts are a valuable food source used especially in kitchens.
